Quality Control
The Quality Control Wing of the Department plays a crucial role in ensuring the supply of safe, hygienic and quality food items under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and State Subsidized Schemes in Himachal Pradesh.
Key Functions
  • Regular sampling and testing of food commodities distributed under TPDS.
  • Scientific analysis of food items in the departmental food testing laboratory.
  • Monitoring the quality of rice, wheat, pulses, sugar, fortified atta, edible oil, salt, tea, dalia and allied products.
  • Ensuring compliance with standards prescribed under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
  • Inspection and quality surveillance through field staff across the State.
  • Technical support in resolving quality disputes related to food grains and commodities.
  • Initiation of action against defaulters violating quality norms and guidelines.
Laboratory & Testing Facilities

The Departmental Laboratory is equipped with advanced scientific instruments such as:

  • HPLC
  • UV Visible Spectrophotometer
  • Polarimeter
  • Other modern testing equipment

The laboratory is also in the process of obtaining NABL Accreditation.

The Department remains committed to maintaining high standards of food quality, consumer safety and transparency in the Public Distribution System across Himachal Pradesh.
