Food grain allocation under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) is made by the Government of India through the Food Corporation of India. The Department, through the H.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd., ensures advance financial arrangements and timely procurement of food grains from FCI depots. The Department manages:
•    Procurement of food grains 
•    Transportation to wholesale godowns 
•    Distribution to Fair Price Shops 
•    Timely supply to beneficiaries under TPDS.

 Approximate requirement of food grains in the State: 
•    42334 Metric Tonnes per Month 
•    508017 Metric Tonnes per Annum
