The Fair Price Shop (FPS) network forms the backbone of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in Himachal Pradesh. These shops play a vital role in ensuring the timely and transparent distribution of essential commodities such as food grains and other notified items to eligible beneficiaries across the State.
- To ensure food security for eligible households under the TPDS.
- To provide essential commodities at subsidized and affordable rates.
- To maintain transparency and accountability in the public distribution mechanism.
The Department follows a transparent and welfare-oriented policy while allotting Fair Price Shops. Preference is given in the following order:
- Gram Panchayats.
- Cooperative Societies.
- Self Help Groups (SHGs).
- Mahila Mandals and Women Collectives.
- Other Public Institutions and Public Bodies.
- Ekal Nari (as defined by the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Himachal Pradesh).
- Widows raising children independently.
- Persons with Disabilities capable of efficiently handling FPS operations.
- Ex-Servicemen.
- Unemployed educated persons having no family member in regular employment.
- Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited.
