The Fair Price Shop (FPS) network forms the backbone of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in Himachal Pradesh. These shops play a vital role in ensuring the timely and transparent distribution of essential commodities such as food grains and other notified items to eligible beneficiaries across the State.
Objective of Fair Price Shops
  • To ensure food security for eligible households under the TPDS.
  • To provide essential commodities at subsidized and affordable rates.
  • To maintain transparency and accountability in the public distribution mechanism.
Priority for Allotment of Fair Price Shops

The Department follows a transparent and welfare-oriented policy while allotting Fair Price Shops. Preference is given in the following order:

1. First Priority
  • Gram Panchayats.
  • Cooperative Societies.
  • Self Help Groups (SHGs).
  • Mahila Mandals and Women Collectives.
  • Other Public Institutions and Public Bodies.
2. Second Priority
  • Ekal Nari (as defined by the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Himachal Pradesh).
  • Widows raising children independently.
  • Persons with Disabilities capable of efficiently handling FPS operations.
  • Ex-Servicemen.
  • Unemployed educated persons having no family member in regular employment.
3. Third Priority
  • Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited.
